Most of us drive from time to time and have NO CLUE how the vehicle works.
This is where the LHF Motorsports powered LadyMex Workshop is able to meet the demand of women who are eager to learn the fundamentals about how their vehicle operate!
So what is the LadyMex Workshop?
The
LadyMex (Lady Mechanics) Workshop is an
interactive and fun way to learn all about your car, how to talk to mechanics
and what to do in the event of an emergency. We provide a safe space for women
to:
• ask
any questions they may have about their car,
• release
the shame of being an uneducated car owner and gain empowerment,
• educate
women to become more confident and safe drivers.
So what was discussed at this workshop?
The
following topics are on the agenda to be discussed:
• The
Owner’s Manual
• Engine
oil
• Tires
and wheels
• Brake
Fluid, Power Steering Fluid and Transmission Fluid
• Washer
Fluid and Engine Coolant
• Suspension
• Battery/Jump
Staring
...and
much more
The aforementioned is what was anticipated before Sunday 13th October, 2019. Let us have a convo about what actually occurred!!
First things FIRST!!
The location for this workshop was so ideal for what I had envisioned just about two months back!!
Special thanks to the management and staff of CPR Equipment Services Ltd. for allowing my team and I to use their establishment to host the workshop!
We transformed the Service Desk to our very own reception/registration area!
We swagged out their waiting area and turned the Lounge into our classroom which was able to accommodate twenty-two (22) persons for our theory session.
We started off the workshop with a short quiz to observe if the participants came to the workshop half empty, bone dry or somewhat filled with regards to their knowledge about cars.
The Maintenance Bay was the home of our Practical Session.
The ladies (and gentleman) had the opportunity to observe the components under an actual car and how they work together to keep the vehicle moving!
|
There was an area set up with components for participants to give a very brief presentation on information that they would have gathered throughout the workshop discussion.
|
Did we mention that the interview area doubled as photoshoot studio? During the break, participants did not pass up on the opportunity to take quick snaps in front of this gorgeous

We also had the pleasure of conducting a little chit chat session with women who attended our workshop on Sunday 13th October 2019. Here is what they had to say!

Ps. I'd like to make special mention of our ONLY male participant at our workshop!
And get this...he is a mechanic by profession!
Now there may be persons who may look at this and laugh! I found it to be very humbling, because not only was he out supporting a woman in a male dominated field, but I also came to the conclusion that if a man that KNOWS the ins and outs of a motor vehicle could take the time out to attend my workshop, ANYBODY CAN ATTEND AND LEARN SOMETHING! When I asked him what he thought about the workshop, here is what he had to say.
"It was really good. I really didn't expect it to be this detailed. I'm impressed. Good job Renée!" - Jermain Willock
*******
So you may ask: "Wenk yuh want teck whey mechanic job?!"
Here's the thing. The purpose of this workshop is not to transform our participants into master mechanics. At the end of the day, after investing a warm piece ah change in a vehicle, the least one can do is learn how to maintain your vehicle which will in turn save you money (so that you can purchase that shoe or dress). I also think that as a motorist, knowing the fundamentals in vehicle maintenance and operation will make us safer drivers.
